Setting up layers
Creating a layer structure is one effective way to organize and view
objects in a drawing.
You can use layers to organize drawing information for display, editing,
and plotting. As you draw objects, you can put them on various layers. When
you want to view or print certain objects, you can make other layers invisible.
Architects and engineers use standard layer structures. This lets them
use a layer structure to share common information between documents. By
using the same layer structure in all documents, they can share CAD files
easily and improve consistency.
If you do not need to use a standard layer structure, you can name layers
according to what kind of plans you are creating. For a house plan, you
might use the names "walls," "furniture," "electrical,"
and "lighting" for the layers. When you want to edit only walls,
you can hide the other layers so they don't interfere with editing. If you
want to print a lighting plan, you can hide all of the other layers. When
you hide a layer, it is no longer visible or printable.
Use the Layer Manager command in the Window menu to open the Layer Manager
palette and work with layers. You can add 255 layers to any view in Draft
mode, and add 255 total layers in Sculpt mode.
Refer to the Layer Manager command in the Window menu to learn how to
use the Layer Manager. |
